The Early Sub: Humpday (Copa Del Rey, FA Cup, Transfer Talk)

Middle of the week and this week has featured a healthy dose of domestic cup competition. FA Cup, Copa Del Rey and Coppa Italia action has been in full swing this  week in preparation for league play this weekend. Real fell to Celta in leg 1 of Copa play and Liverpool sunk Plymouth on the road with a Lucas goal. A couple transfer rumors is also featured in this edition of Humpday.

Celta Trump Real at the Bernabeu

Real has some catching up to do after being sunk 2-1 at home to Celta Vigo. Zidane’s side has some soul searching to do after losing tonight and to Sevilla over the weekend. If they aren’t careful, Malaga could sneak up and take points from Madrid which would put their hold up top of Spain in jeopardy. A new leader could be introduced in La Liga by the weekend’s end.

Liverpool Ride Lucas’ Goal Over Plymouth

Lucas nets his first goal since September of 2010 to give Jurgen Klopp’s side the victory over the League 2 side. Liverpool matchup against Wolverhampton next in the FA Cup. Lucas continues to be recruited by Inter and he could possibly be dealt on loan.

Transfer Gossip

Antoine Griezmann is in complete danger to depart from the Vicente Calderon over the summer as Manchester United continue to recruit him over to the Theatre of Dreams. Griezmann has expressed his desire to play with countryman Paul Pogba. United are looking to reel in the Frenchmen for around 100m Euros. Diego Simeone recently said that he “doesn’t tie anyone down,” when regarding to Griezmann’s transfer rumors.

Memphis Depay was sold to Olympique Lyon for over 20m Euros from Manchester United with a buy back clause for United to take him back. Memphis is still only 22 years old and full of potential. He has been drained of playing time with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford taking the bulk of the playing time down the left wing. France is a good place to revive careers (ask Balotelli and Di Maria) and will find 1st team playing time alongside Lacazette and Nabil Fekir while competing for a Ligue 1 title. Lyon are currently 11 points back from 1st placers Nice and Monaco.
